What is this utopias laboratory?

A space to learn, reflect, create and share proposals, projects and resources on existing and imaginary alternatives to live and coexist better in and with our planet.

Why a utopias laboratory?

Because I think we need new imaginaries. Utopian, daring and bold imaginaries that help us remember, create and act out kind, just and regenerative ways of living. Contrary to what the dominant narrative would have us believe, this world is full of joy, solidarity, care, and mutual support. Even in the most adverse times and spaces, in places ravaged by war, ecocide and devastation, these virtues are present; they live and give life.

I agree with the idea that what we theorize and investigate¹ and (I would add) communicate is performative. That is to say, it has the effect of making what we think, say or write more real. That is why I consider it important to limit the details of the problems to which I intend to present alternatives. It is worth mentioning that it is not due to an intention to deny or downplay their importance, perhaps it is quite the opposite, they are so present and so insidious that in some way they are the starting point for these reflections. I simply consider that most of them are well documented and are being excellently problematized by other people and groups. Here we will try to be another piece of the puzzle.

The present is not a monolith and futures are not predetermined. We are time travelers, future ancestors. The actions and inactions we take today impact what happens in the present-futures. This is an invitation to take on this great responsibility with gentleness, compassion and humility.

¿Qué es este laboratorio de utopías?

Un espacio para aprender, reflexionar, crear y compartir propuestas, proyectos y recursos sobre alternativas existentes e imaginarias para vivir y convivir mejor en y con nuestro planeta.

¿Por qué un laboratorio de utopías?

Porque creo que necesitamos nuevos imaginarios. Imaginarios utópicos, atrevidos y audaces que nos ayuden a recordar, crear y actuar formas de vivir gentiles, justas y regenerativas. Contrario a lo que la narrativa dominante nos quiere hacer creer, este mundo está lleno de alegría, solidaridad, cuidado y apoyo mutuo. Incluso en los momentos y espacios mas adversos, en los sitios azotados por la guerra, el ecocidio y la devastación, estas virtudes están presentes; viven y dan vida.

Coincido con la idea que lo que teorizamos e investigamos1 y (yo agregaría) comunicamos es performativo. Es decir que tiene el efecto hacer más real aquello que pensamos, decimos o escribimos. De ahí que considero importante limitar los detalles de las problemáticas a las que pretendo presentar alternativas. Cabe mencionar que no se debe a una intensión de negarlas o restarles importancia, quizá sea todo lo contrario, están tan presentes y son tan insidiosas que de alguna manera son el punto de partida para estas reflexiones. Simplemente considero que en su mayoría están bien documentadas y están siendo excelentemente problematizadas por otras personas y colectivas. Aquí trataremos de ser otra pieza del rompecabezas.

El presente no es un monolito y los futuros no están predeterminados. Somos viajeras en el tiempo, futuras ancestras. Las acciones e inacciones que tomamos hoy impactan lo que sucede en los presentes-futuros. Esta es una invitación a asumir con gentileza, compasión y humildad esta gran responsabilidad.
